Forsyth County’s planning commission is back at full strength after welcoming a new member at its most recent meeting.

Keith Banke will represent District 3 in Southwest Forsyth, where he lives. Banke and wife Barbara have been residents of Forsyth County since 2007. A county spokesman says Banke retired from two major corporations and as a real estate director, specialized in selecting sites and completing municipal requirements for new locations.

He’s a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in metallurgical engineering and has an MBA from Michigan State University.

Banke said he has a keen interest in serving Forsyth County and is looking forward to taking on his responsibilities. He replaces Patrick Britt, who resigned earlier this year.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
