Forsyth County’s Parks and Recreation Department has become one of only 165 in the U.S. to win accreditation from the National Recreation and Park Association and the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.

The designation was awarded during the park association’s annual conference in New Orleans. County officials said that to win the honor, the department had to meet and document 151 standards related to management and administration of lands, facilities, resources, programs , safety and services.

The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department dates from 1978 and oversees 25 parks as well as a greenway and trail system.
