Some folks registered to vote in Forsyth County could soon find themselves dropped from the rolls.

Elections chief Barbara Luth said another mailing has gone out to people on the “streets list” of voters. Those are voters registered at a mailing facility or other commercial address point and those registered at a spot where there is no longer a structure.

Luth said anyone who doesn’t respond will have their name brought before the elections board on Aug. 1. for a decision on whether to cancel their registration. She said those in danger of being dropped will get a warning letter after that meeting.

Luth also said 7,579 confirmation notes were mailed to voters July 7, after voter lists were compared with post office records. Some 4,500 have been returned as undeliverable. She said that some of those have possible forwarding addresses on file, and those will get follow-up letters.

The elections office will work on others that have problems with their registration, Luth said.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
