Pastoral golf course views like this one are due to give way to homes in East Forsyth, with Forsyth County Commissioners making zoning changes involving the Lanier Golf Club, which will be redeveloped into a 321-lot subdivision.

Forsyth County Commissioners voted 4-1 recently to rezone four remnant parcels to incorporate them into a 321-lot subdivision planned on the site of the Lanier Golf Club. The decision came despite opposition from both the County Planning Board and Laura Semanson, who represents the area.

The commission approved rezoning the lots from agriculture to master planned district to conform with the rest of the development being done by Lennar Homes of Georgia. Lennar has offered to buy the properties.

Semanson read a statement during the meeting intimating that the move would increase the development’s density and would “make a mockery” of the county’s zoning code. She offered a motion to deny the rezoning, which died due to the lack of a second.

Josh Scoggins, an attorney representing Lennar, told commissioners that the additional parcels would not hike the development’s density or violate previous land-use covenants.
