Donald J. Horton won’t be Roswell’s next mayor, but the soon-to-be former councilman knows who he is voting for in the upcoming election.

In a Facebook post, Horton said he will cast his vote for pastor Lee Jenkins. Jenkins faces council member Lori Henry in the runoff on Dec. 5.

“As a conservative, I pledged as Mayor to never raise taxes. That’s why Lori Henry’s record of raising taxes and fees while on the city council concerns me. While she has told many residents what we want to hear, her votes tell a different story. And it certainly isn’t conservative,” Horton wrote. “That’s why I believe in Lee Jenkins. He’s authentic and straightforward. While we had our differences in the campaign, he promises me that he will passionately protect our homeowners, taxpayers, and community.”

Horton, the Post 3 city councilman, announced his run for mayor shortly after a judge ruled that longtime mayor Jere Wood be removed from his seat for violating term limits. In the November election, Horton finished third, taking 27 percent of the vote.

A special election to fill his seat also advanced to a runoff between Mike Nyden and Sean Groer. In the race to succeed him, Horton endorsed Groer.

Horton was elected to the Post 3 seat in 2015 after it was vacated by Betty Price. Horton also served as the mayor pro tem.

Jenkins was the last to qualify for the race. He is a businessman, an Atlanta native, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, and the founder of his church.
