Chinese buffet in Cobb re-inspected after flies seen landing on food

Georgia has rules it requires every food service operation to follow. These are just a few of the many health and safety regulations.

Update:

A Cobb County health department inspector cleared a Chinese buffet in Smyrna after it failed a health check, in part for flies landing on food.

Chow King Grill & Buffet on Cobb Parkway scored a 96 when it was re-inspected Aug. 3, records posted online this week show.

The inspector wrote that the failing inspection score hadn’t been posted for customers to see as required.

The restaurant was also docked for stacking dishes while wet and for not having hot water in some parts of the eatery.

A Chinese buffet in Smyrna failed its health check for issues with flies landing on food and seafood at unsafe temperatures, according to Cobb County health department records.

Chow King Grill & Buffet, 2400 Cobb Parkway SE, scored a 63 on its Monday inspection, the report shows. Any score below a 70 is considered failing.

Vicky Ni, restaurant manager, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday that she was not there for the inspection, but she feels there might have been some translation issues with the inspector and her staff.

Regardless, she said she knows what she needs to do with the health issues: “We’re going to correct all of them.”

The inspector noted several food containers with an accumulation of old diced onions and garlic in additions to several utensils with old dried food debris and “wet animal protein residue.”

There were shrimp and mussels put on the buffet line at an unsafe temperature, according to the report.

The eatery was also docked points for 10 fly tapes attached to the ceilings of rooms where food is prepared and stored.

There were several flies seen buzzing around the kitchen during the inspection, “with some landing on food items,” according to the report. The food was thrown out.

The eatery scored an 86 on its November inspection and an 83 in July 2017.

Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
