Sandy Springs will soon have 420 new parking spots.

Duke Realty — an Indianapolis-based commercial real estate firm — announced Thursday that it will build a five-level parking garage to service medical office buildings for Northside Hospital's Center Point at 1100 Johnson Ferry Road.

Duke Realty owns those two buildings already and will break ground on the parking garage in June, with a target completion date of December. The project will also be designed to accommodate two additional future parking levels.

“The current parking deck at our medical office buildings is at capacity so the new parking structure will be a welcome addition,” said Doug Macdonald, Vice President of Planning for Northside Hospital. “Northside Hospital’s services and staff have expanded significantly during the last few years, so the new parking deck will enable us accommodate that growth as well as future growth.”

Center Point I and II are in what is known as “Pill Hill,” a healthcare destination that includes three hospitals, hundreds of physician practices and multiple outpatient centers. Duke Realty acquired the two medical office buildings in 2007, leased half the buildings to general office users, and converted the other half for use by healthcare practices. In April 2013, the City of Sandy Springs gave approval for Duke Realty to convert all the space for medical office use.

The architect for the parking garage project will be Lyman Davidson Dooly Inc., which has offices in Marietta and Tampa, Florida.
