Firefighters battled intense flames and thick smoke at an apartment at the Woodland Hills Apartments Sunday night, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Channel 2 Action News reported the residents at the apartment were not home when the flames started.

A battalion chief with DeKalb County told Channel 2 Action News that the apartment was filled with items that provided fuel for the fire.

“There’s a lot of items in there. It’s very crowded in there,” the battalion chief told Channel 2 Action News.

A cause of the fire remains under investigation and firefighters are expected to check throughout early Monday morning for any possible rekindling of the fire, Channel 2 Action News reported.
