Few clues in deadly crash that killed Gwinnett man

Gwinnett police are still investigating what led to a deadly crash Friday night in Norcross on Singleton Road.

Just days after Macielhilario Guevara was killed in a car crash in Norcross, police still have no clue what could’ve led to the incident and charges have not been filed.

Guevara died in the three-car crash on Singleton Road on Friday night after the Chevrolet Cruze he was riding in barreled into two cars, according to an accident report. The Norcross man was a front-seat passenger.

It’s not clear what caused driver Destinee Legarda to crash into the two cars, but alcohol and drugs were not a factor.

According to the report, Maris Wells was leaving an apartment complex in her Dodge Dart when she edged out into the street. She stopped for oncoming traffic, but when Wells looked into her rearview mirror, she saw Legarda’s car, which was initially heading eastbound, swerve into the westbound lanes.

Wells entered the roadway to avoid being hit, but was struck by the car on her left passenger door.

Legarda then struck Coily Morales in her Toyota Tundra head-on, according to the report.

Legarda told officials all she could remember from the crash was that she got “into a head-on collision with a large truck” and woke up to people pulling her out of her car.

She and a back-seat passenger were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with injuries. Morales’ 2-year-old son was taken to Scottish Rite Hospital with minor injuries.

No one in Wells’ car was injured.

Gwinnett police said the crash is still being investigated.
