The FBI believes two men who attempted to rob a Waffle House in Cherokee County are connected to several robberies in the metro Atlanta area.
The men seen in surveillance video Saturday on Highway 92 in Acworth were chased off when a customer pulled a gun and fired a round, Cherokee County sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Marianne Kelley said in a news release.
Investigators believe they are behind at least eight other robberies in the past month of dollar stores, restaurants and pharmacies.
Similar clothing worn during the crimes helped linked the suspects, FBI spokesman Kevin Rowson said.
One man, in what Rowson called “a violent crime group” that struck in Conyers and Sandy Springs, wore a black hoodie with the words “Been Broke Before.” The same shirt was worn by a suspect in the attempted Waffle House robbery Saturday.
The Been Broke Before movement was created to foster an environment where success is the norm and not the exception, according to its website.
"The biggest concern of ours is that they’re violent,” Rowson told Channel 2 Action News. “And we’re hoping that it doesn’t get to the point where someone does get hurt seriously.”
In the surveillance video from a robbery at a Family Dollar in Conyers, the suspects are captured violently robbing the store and terrorizing staff.
“The suspects have physically assaulted store employees, forced them to the ground, pointed weapons and fired them in the direction of employees,” Rowson said in a news release.
Officials hope someone will recognize the “Been Broke Before” hoodie and call police.
