The Ga. Hwy. 85 bridge that crosses Whitewater Creek next to the historic Starr’s Mill is scheduled for replacement soon, and the Fayette County Board of Commissioners is asking the state to design a structure in keeping with the area’s aesthetics.

The commission passed a resolution this month that formally requests that the Georgia Board of Transportation and other state officials “promote a bridge design that embellishes one of the most beautiful historical sites in the State of Georgia.”

The commission has taken other steps recently to ensure that future commercial development near the mill also meets specific design standards.
