Students in Fayette County are about to get some fresh rides to school. The Board of Education voted 5-0 on Dec. 11 to purchase 20 new school buses from Atlanta-based Rush Truck Centers of Georgia, for a cost not to exceed $2 million. The order includes 15 buses with 72 seats and five buses with 54 seats. All of the buses will be air conditioned, but will not be equipped with seat belts.

“Nationally, there are arguments, pro and con, about seat belts. School buses are designed to be the safest vehicles on the road,” said spokeswoman Melinda Berry-Dreisbach.
