The Fayette County Board of Education has bought 37 acres of property in Peachtree City, potentially for a new school building.

The $525,000 sales contract for the second of two parcels was formally approved by the board on Nov. 26 and will become final on Dec. 7.

The two connected properties sit off Carriage Lane near Ga. Hwy. 54, and were previously owned by Peachtree City United Methodist Church. The board does not have any immediate plans for building a new school, but recent population growth studies and near-capacity enrollment at J. C. Booth Middle and McIntosh High make future expansion possible.

Superintendent Joseph Barrow, Jr. said, “We feel like this is a wise investment moving forward.”
