A family stranded while tubing on the Chattahoochee River was rescued by Gwinnett County and Johns Creek fire officials after one of the family members fell ill.

The family called 911 after an adult man in their group began to feel weak and dizzy. The family became stranded after they had been tubing on the river for several hours, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, a Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman.

Gwinnett County and Johns Creek firefighters responded to the family’s 911 call at 7 p.m. Monday to their location on the river between Medlock and East Jones bridges. A Johns Creek Fire Department rescue boat plucked the family from the river and brought them ashore shortly before 7:30 p.m., Rutledge said.

Paramedics were waiting to evaluate the sick man and his family when they arrived on dry land. It is unclear if the sick man needed to go to the hospital.
