A truck driver was cited after a candy spill tied up traffic along I-285 in DeKalb County, officials said.

The accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, but it backed up traffic during part of Tuesday’s morning commute. It was eventually cleaned up by 7 a.m.

Eldrige Squarles damaged the tractor-trailer he was driving and a median sign when he failed to maintain his lane and overturned at northbound I-285 near Northlake Parkway, according to the accident report.

He was hauling 37,000 pounds of candy that spilled onto the highway.

Squarles told police he veered right to avoid hitting a car that pulled in front of the truck and forced him to slam on his brakes.
