Taking advantage of Atlanta’s gorgeous spring weather, Verizon and the Atlanta Falcons continue a tradition of giving back to the local community.

The local football team and technology corporation hosted the 12th annual Network of Champions Golf Tournament. This year, it benefitted CHRIS Kids, an Atlanta-based organization that offers many programs through its family of services including behavioral health, safe homes and environments, strong communities and education and training.

“We selected CHRIS Kids to support their mission to strengthen families in Atlanta by improving the lives of local youth,” said Kate Jay, with Verizon. “We have invested heavily in the Atlanta community to promote healthy family relationships via our HopeLine program, and CHRIS Kids is doing remarkable work in this space.”

Verizon’s HopeLine provides ways for individuals to take action against domestic violence by donating no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories in any condition from any service provider.

To raise money for CHRIS Kids, donations were collected through a number of activities at the golf event including a silent auction, hole activations and sales of “mulligan” shots for players. All proceeds will benefit CHRIS Kids.

“The money raised will support one of our programs which has eight group homes throughout the metro Atlanta area,” said Brittany Burnett, vice president of Development for CHRIS Kids. “This program provides safe and stable housing, specialized counseling, and individualized life skills training and support services to high needs children in Georgia’s foster care system.” Youth attend local public schools and live in homes located in neighborhoods in five Georgia counties: Fulton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Clayton and Douglas.

Like Verizon and the Atlanta Falcons, community involvement is key to CHRIS Kids’ success. People can get involved by volunteering for beautification projects, cooking classes; donating hygiene items or household supplies for our youth; accompanying youth on outings such as bowling, hiking, fishing; or donating items for the holidays and more.

Over the 12 years, the golf tournament has supported the Wounded Warrior Project, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Junior League of Atlanta, Operation Homefront, Partnership Against Domestic Violence, The Cool Girls, Inc raising over $160,000 altogether.

“Giving back to the communities where we live and work is an important part of our company culture. These local non-profit organizations support our friends, neighbors and loved ones. We’re honored to be able to give thanks for all of the work they do for the Atlanta community at events like this one,” added Jay.

In other news: Paragon Bank's Small Business Capital Group employee's recently spent a day using some of their Assisting the Community Through Service time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County. The team volunteered with the organization's "A Brush of Kindness" program which focuses on repairs, yard work and maintenance for elderly or handicapped homeowners.
