Joseph Sims, left, was battered by now-former DeKalb jailer Anthony Dozier, according to an indictment.

A former DeKalb County jailer who was recently indicted on a battery charge in the bloody beating of an inmate is now free on bond.

Anthony Dozier, 46, was behind bars for about an hour and 15 minutes Friday, according to jail records. He posted $5,000 for release.

Dozier is charged with beating Joseph Sims on Jan. 30, 2014, after confronting the inmate over tucking in his shirt, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Another jailer reportedly tried to pry Dozier off Sims as Dozier rained nearly 30 blows on the inmate.

Sims alleged in a pending federal lawsuit that Dozier punched him mostly as he lay on the ground. Sims said he suffered a black eye, lacerations, severe pain and emotional distress because of the beating.

Another inmate alleges Dozier choked him and rammed his head into a concrete wall in 2014, Channel 2 reported.

The sheriff’s office, which is over the jail, has declined to comment on the case.
