It’s an old story, a cliche: firefighters save cats.

But tell Scott Cartwright it’s not worth repeating. The Brookhaven man was in his apartment at the Oglethorpe complex off Ashford-Dunwoody Road on Saturday night when DeKalb County firefighters banged on the door.

The building was being evacuated because of a fire.

Cartwright grabbed his dogs, but wasn't able to find his cat, Lewis, who often hides behind the couch, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Cartwright believed he lost Lewis. But firefighters surprised him, bringing the cat out of the building, where Lewis was reunited with the owner.

"That’s incredible, thank you, thank you,” Cartwright said to DeKalb County firefighters, the TV station reported. “Y’all are awesome."

No one was hurt in the fire.
