Decatur began repairing four of its more battered roads this week, work that could last into late November.

The city typically mills, patches and resurfaces four to six roads annually. According to senior engineer Michelle Hirose the roads in worst shape are analyzed by the engineering staff and are chosen according to a pavement conditions rating system also used by the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The streets this year getting full treatment are Swanton Way from Commerce Drive to the MARTA turnaround, Chelsea Drive from Coventry Road to Kathryn Avenue, Olympic Place from West College Avenue until it dead ends, and Midway Road from South Candler Street to the city limits.

Any residents on these streets will be given three days notification. Cars must be removed during daylight hours 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on days work is performed.

A total 0.79 miles of roads are getting fixed with the total project budget $550,000 with $126,540 coming from a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant.
