Gov. Nathan Deal signed an executive order for flags in Cobb County to fly at half-staff Wednesday to honor a Marietta firefighter killed in a suspected DUI crash.

Ron Herens, 23, died in the April 10 wreck while on vacation in Los Angeles. Two other Marietta firemen in the car with him — Dillon Guest and Doug Clancard — were injured.

Benjamin Seider, also 23, was arrested on a DUI charge, Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The body of Herens, who had been with the fire department four years, arrived in metro Atlanta on Saturday.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset Wednesday, the day of Herens’ memorial service.

A celebration of Herens’ life will start at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Chapel, 4665 Macland Road in Powder Springs.

Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, 1861 Dallas Highway in Marietta.
