The incident happened in the 1100 block of Howell Mill Road, Atlanta police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy said early Thursday.

“The victims were leaning on the metal railing when the entire section of that railing broke free, causing both to fall one story,” she said.

The railing was directly next to the entrance of Marcel restaurant, Espy said.

When police got to the scene just after 11 p.m., they found the two men lying on the sidewalk. They were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

“The restaurant was closed and the entire affected area was cordoned off for safety,” Espy said.

Workers made repairs Thursday afternoon to the White Provision lofts building, which houses the restaurant, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The restaurant plans to open Thursday night.
