Cops: Men caught with $71K worth of marijuana in vehicle
Two Statesboro men were arrested on marijuana trafficking charges Wednesday after an officer found more than 16 pounds of marijuana worth $71,000 in the vehicle, according to the Henry County Police Department.
Corey Deloach, 26, and his cousin, Fred Williams, 21, were traveling along I-75 at midnight when they were pulled over during a routine traffic stop for failing to remain in their lane, Captain James Bolton of the Henry County Police Department wrote in an e-mail to the AJC.
When the arresting officer approached the vehicle, he smelled raw marijuana and notified Deloach. Deloach then told the officer that part of a joint was in his door.
According to officials, the officer searched the vehicle and discovered three grams of marijuana in the pocket map next to the driver's seat and two trash bags in the trunk. One of the trash bags contained 11 one-pound Ziploc bags of marijuana. The other contained five pounds of loose marijuana cut from a bale.
Both Deloach and Williams waived their probable cause hearings scheduled for Wednesday.
