Marietta police say a local man’s 15-minute car heist this morning ended when he crashed into a tree.

The department said Edward Charles Pittman II, 36, stole the keys to a black BMW SUV after breaking into used car dealership, Georgia Auto World, located on Roswell Road just before South Marietta Parkway before 7 a.m.

As Pittman drove off the lot, he damaged two other parked vehicles, cops said.

About 20 minutes later, officers were sent to the area of Chestnut Hill Road and Powder Springs Street, which is a five-mile drive from the dealership, with reports of a BMW driving erratically.

A few minutes later, the SUV had crashed into a tree in a residential neighborhood behind 1045 Charlton Trace, police said.

Officers pulled Pittman out of the vehicle and arrested him.

No charges had been filed as of late Thursday morning, but Pittman was booked into Cobb County jail about 8:15 a.m.
