Sandra Christine Olver has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Sandra Christine Olver has been charged in the shooting death of her stepfather, Thomas Hall Gaines, Lilburn police said.

Police were called to the home where Gaines and Olver lived on Thursday. Gaines had been shot in the face, according to a police report. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Eastside Medical Center.

Police had been told that Gaines shot himself, but officers noticed “inconsistencies in Olver’s account of the shooting and physical evidence in the home,” according to a news release. Olver was handcuffed and taken to the Lilburn Police Department for an interview, but was not placed under arrest.

The next day, Olver’s daughter called the police department’s non-emergency line and said Olver was planning to commit suicide.

Officers went to Olver’s home and asked her why she was going to kill herself, and she told them that she had shot Gaines, police said. Olver was then charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Olver is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention center without bond.
