An Alpharetta woman was hoodwinked into believing she was making payments on a rental property she saw on Craigslist, police say.

The 51-year-old victim contacted an email ending “@rigzone.pw” and was sent a rental application asking for her basic information, according to a Wednesday incident report.

After the woman sent it back, she was asked to put a $900 deposit on a prepaid debit card and send pictures of the card and receipt. She complied.

She told police she was instructed to do the same thing for the first month's rent, and another $900 was taken from a card. An online listing shows the house at the 3060 Winston Terrace Court for rent at $1,795 a month.

The would-be-renter told police the last time she heard from the account was Friday, when someone said the keys would be overnighted.

However, the victim says the keys never arrived.

The case is inactive, but remains open if other information comes forward.
