Weeks after a man was shot eight times and left at DeKalb Medical's Hillandale campus on Christmas Eve, authorities have arrested the alleged gunman.

Jonathan Barton, who turned 47 today, is charged with murder and being held without bond in the death of Carlos E. Kaigler, 34.

A warrant released this week alleges that Barton shot Kaigler at about 1 a.m. after an argument on Sharonton Way off Redan Road. “Someone” attempted to wash the blood from the driveway with bleach, the warrant says.

Benjamin Taylor, 47, was charged with tampering with evidence, but it wasn’t immediately clear if he was accused of the cleanup.

Details of the argument and the source of disagreement that preceded the shooting also aren’t clear.

Kaigler was pronounced dead within minutes of being taken in a Chevrolet Tahoe to the hospital, which about seven miles from the scene.

The Tahoe was reportedly driven by a man, who gave a nurse Kaigler’s name and then left the hospital.
