Community Lens for Sept. 14

Albert Korgi submitted a picture of the Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapafsas, near the town of Kalambáka, located in central Greece. “I took this image this past November. The monastery is part of a group of 24 monasteries built around the 14th century which make up Meteora,” he wrote. “Today only six remain being run by monks and nuns. The word Meteora in Greek means ‘suspended in the air’ as the monasteries sit on top of sandstone peaks. These rock masses were formed some 60 million years ago and their distinctive and varied shapes were sculpted over time by earthquakes, rain and wind. I titled the picture, ‘Meditation in the middle of the sky.’”
