The Cobb County Board of Commissioners authorized Nov. 27 the acceptance of a $6,000 state grant for K9 Unit equipment.

The money from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency must be used “to enhance Cobb’s capabilities to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies in accordance with the goals and objectives of the State Strategic Plan,” according to Cobb Police Chief Michael Register and Cobb Public Safety Agency Director Sam Heaton in a Nov. 27 memo.

This award is designated for the purchase of explosive ordnance detection (EOD) K9 equipment,

supplies and veterinary care for Cobb Police dogs.

There is no required match for the state funding.
