Cobb taco joint passes re-check after ‘excessive black and pink mold’

Georgia has rules it requires every food service operation to follow. These are just a few of the many health and safety regulations.

Update:

A taco restaurant in Marietta passed re-inspection from the health department after issues with mold.

Julia's Taqueria scored an 81 on Wednesday, records show.

The inspector found a block of cheese that was 10 days past its expiration date during the most recent health check.

According to the report, there were three bottles of whipped cream “stored in the walk-in cooler and still in use” with expiration dates of April 2016.

The inspector noted that there was “excessive black and pink mold located in the interior of the ice machine located in main kitchen.”

There were also three bins of “tripa” — tripe tacos are a Mexican taco standard — improperly thawing in standing water, which was listed as a repeat violation.

Also an issue with the tripa, the inspector saw a “wooden stick” being used to turn the guts inside out for cooking, but only materials than can be properly sanitized should be used for such work. That was a new violation.

Julia's scored a 74 on its September 2016 inspection, but it failed an August 2016 health check with a score of 60.

Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
