Changes to Cobb’s signage fees went into effect Saturday - even though an Oct. 25 public hearing and vote are scheduled by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners for this code amendment.

Cobb communications officials did not respond to an inquiry from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution concerning this matter.

Until Saturday, the signage fee structure had been $50 for up to $1,000 in sign cost and one percent of the sign construction cost over $1,000.

Signage fees now are:

  • $50 for up to 50 square feet
  • $100 for between 51 and 100 square feet
  • $200 for between 101 and 150 square feet
  • $300 for between 151 square feet or more

Double-faced signs are an additional 75 cents per square foot for the second side of the sign.

This new fee structure is designed to make it easier for “customers” to know the signage costs, said Dana Johnson, director of the Cobb Community Development Agency, to the commissioners during the first of their two public hearings on this matter on Sept. 27.
