Cobb schools to borrow $6.5 million from reserves

Until SPLOST5 revenues come in around February or March, the Cobb County Board of Education will borrow $6.5 million from general fund reserves to install interactive flat-panel screens in classrooms by January.

Then the board will repay that full amount to the reserves, said Chief Financial Officer Brad Johnson at the board’s Sept. 13 meeting.

These screens will replace outdated audio/visual equipment such as overhead projectors, he added.

These replacements will save the Cobb County School District about $400,000 a year that is associated with maintenance of the older equipment, Johnson said.
