Cobb DA: Clark Atlanta junior lured to his death with Craigslist ad

Now, he faces life in prison.

Ruthenberg, 24, was convicted Tuesday in the February 2015 killing of Jones. He is set to be sentenced Nov. 20.

Charges are still pending against the other two, 21-year-old Jordan James Baker and 22-year-old Jonathon O’Neil Myles. Both of them testified against Ruthenberg.

All three were arrested by Marietta police less than 24 hours after Jones was found in the front seat of his car with gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and the right side of his neck.

In addition to his shoes, they also stole his cell phone.

Friends of Jones — a native of Daytona Beach, Florida —describe a well-dressed young man.

"He always wore suits, trying to look professional," Terayle Hill told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution at the time. "He was ambitious."

Jones loved to mentor children.

His older brother Samuel Heath said at the funeral that Jones wasn't the best behaved child. School work wasn't always a priority. At age 5, he preferred throwing dice with the older kids and winning their money.

Jones, a chemistry major, wanted to be a doctor and had planned to study in China that summer, Heath said.

The shooting came a couple weeks after a Cobb County couple was tricked into going to Telfair County to buy a vintage Mustang advertised on Craigslist.

Ronnie "Jay" Towns pleaded not guilty in April to killing 66-year-old June Runion and 69-year-old Elrey "Bud" Runion. He faces the death penalty.
