A caregiver at an East Cobb assisted-living facility has been indicted on felony murder charges after police say he beat a 91-year-old patient to death.
The Cobb County grand jury made the decision on Thursday to move along the case of Landon Jean Pierre Terrel, court documents show.
According to a warrant, Terrel — who stands 6 feet and 3 inches tall, weighing 369 pounds — beat Adam Neil Bennett inside the Sunrise at Cobb facility on Johnson Ferry Road until he broke the elderly man’s ribs, lacerated his kidney and punctured a lung.
That was overnight into Aug. 15. Bennett died on Aug. 18, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce previously said.
Police haven’t given a reason for the beating, but Terrel is charged with leaving Bennett to die.
Doctors at WellStar Kennestone Hospital called police, Pierce said, to tell investigators that Bennett’s injuries were not consistent with the information given to them.
Police have said Terrel, 33, admitted to beating Bennett.
Terrel was indicted on two counts of felony murder, two counts of elder abuse and one count of elder neglect. He has been in Cobb jail without bond since he was arrested.
