If folks in Milton hear a siren today they shouldn’t assume that it is a test.

The City of Milton wrote on its Facebook page Wednesday morning that tornado sirens will be set off if the National Weather Service polygon crosses into Milton. Tornado watches were issued across the metro Atlanta region Wednesday morning.

"Citizens should be weather aware today and if they hear a siren or get a warning, go to an interior first floor room or basement, away from windows," the post read.

The city added that its emergency management team is carefully monitoring today's weather and will be in contact with county and state officials as the day progresses.

Milton urges its citizens to sign up for its "Code Red" emergency alerts, which can be done by clicking this link and filling out a form. Alerts will then be sent to the cell phones of those who sign up.

Police in Roswell and Alpharetta reported no significant weather-related incidents as of 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Flights were grounded at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Six Flags Over Georgia has closed for the day.
