Seven Georgia cities, including four in the metro Atlanta area, will receive federal grants totaling more than $90,000 to support historic preservation activities, the Historic Preservation Division of the state Department of Natural Resources announced.

Atlanta will get $27,050 to develop a city-wide historic preservation strategy; Roswell, $17,050 for an updated historic resources survey of its historic district; Hampton, $7,200 for the final phase of a citywide historic resources survey; and Avondale Estates, $1,500 to develop and install an interpretive panel at the historic Carl’s Corner.

Beyond Atlanta, Rome will get $23,000 to stabilize Fairview School; Toccoa, $10,200 for the second phase of a historic resources survey; and Dublin, $7,260 to assess the condition of the Northview Cemetery Mausoleum.

The grants require a 40 percent local match. They are available to local governments with a preservation ordinance and historic preservation commission, and are awarded through the Historic Preservation Fund of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service. The Historic Preservation Division is the program administrator in Georgia.
