One request for chickens was approved and another was postponed recently by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

James E. and Deborah S. McGuire were granted their request for four hens but no roosters on 1.3 acres on Lakeshore Drive for egg production.

Opposed were Commission Chairman Tim Lee and Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, with Lee saying he is opposed to any request for chickens on less than two acres.

Commissioners Lisa Cupid, Bob Ott and Bob Weatherford voted their support.

For the other request, the commissioners decided 5-0 to hold the matter for 30 days at Birrell’s request since she had been out of town and had not had time to review this matter in her district.

Michael C. and Christina Disser are requesting a land use permit for poultry on less than two acres on Mitchell Road.

They also will need to seek a county variance for their four ducks - also, all for egg production.
