The Cherokee County School District has scheduled public hearings for June on a budget that officials say increase the district’s investment in classroom instruction while increasing reserves with the aim of achieving a triple-A credit rating, all without an increase in the millage rate.

The hearings are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., June 6, and 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., June 15. The third hearing will be followed immediately by the school board regular meeting at 7 p.m., where a vote on the budget is to be taken. The hearings and vote will take place in the school board auditorium at the district’s Downtown Center, 110 Academy St., Canton.

The budget includes $382 million for day-to-day operations, with 86 percent of that amount going toward salaries and benefits. New hiring will respond to anticipated student enrollment growth and help reduce average class sizes.

Some $18.5 million in the building fund includes funds to renovate the entrance to Boston Elementary School, Woodstock, to ease traffic congestion.
