Cherokee County will pay $124,160 to Moreland Altobelli Associates Inc. to draw up plans for the Towne Lake Parkway Multi-Use Path in the Woodstock area.

The county Board of Commissioners approved the engineering design contract for the path. It will run for about three miles along the south and west sides of Parkside Lane and Towne Lake Parkway from Towne Lake Hills South Drive to Bells Ferry Road, according to a memo to commissioners from Public Works Director Geoffrey E. Morton.

The path will be at least eight feet wide, constructed of concrete and located within the existing roadway right-of-way, separated from vehicle traffic by a double-faced guardrail, Morton said.

Moreland Altobelli also is tasked with identifying right-of-way needs, environmental permits and utility conflicts, and determining a potential project phasing plan and schedule. The first phase is expected to be put out for bids next spring. The consultant also will conduct an informational open house to seek public comment.
