Cherokee County has approved paying a design consultant an additional $15,000 to start drawing up plans for a Veterans Memorial at Cherokee Veterans Park.

The Board of Commissioners approved a change order to a professional services agreement so that Lose & Associates Inc., an architecture, engineering and planning firm, can begin work on the memorial design. The county will be charged hourly rates for the task.

“Lose & Associates will be working with staff and the (park) steering committee to produce conceptual design and an opinion of costs for the project,” County Manager Jerry W. Cooper told commissioners.

The memorial is to honor Cherokee residents who served in the armed services. Cherokee Veterans Park is being developed on 149 acres at 7345 Cumming Highway, Canton. It is expected to open this fall.
