A passenger was injured when a car slammed into a Riverdale home early Wednesday.

Christine Thomas, who rents the home on Garnet Avenue, said she and her husband were in bed sleeping when the incident happened about 3 a.m. Thomas said she heard the car skidding, followed by a “loud boom” and went to the window to make sure her cars weren’t hit.

They were not, “so I thought they missed me,” Thomas said.

But her husband heard the alarm going off, so the couple ran downstairs.

“When we got downstairs, we saw that a car was in our dining room,” Thomas said.

The couple was “speechless” even though Thomas said she’s used to this kind of incident because she works for an insurance company.

One of two passengers in the car was taken to a hospital by ambulance, Thomas said. That passenger’s condition is unknown.

The female driver, 30, and another passenger weren’t hurt, Thomas said.

Electric workers responding to the scene told the residents to leave the home while they turned its gas off, Thomas said. They secured the live wiring and installed support beams to prevent the home from caving in.

Thomas is waiting to see if she will be able to return to the home or needs to get a hotel.

The driver apologized to Thomas, and she told the woman: “I can’t believe you walked out of that accident.”
