Residents of Candler East Apartments outside Decatur told police their apartments took gunfire Monday night as a man was killed in the parking lot.

Lewis Ramey, 25, had a wound to the back when DeKalb County officers pulled into the lot, according to a report released Wednesday. No other injuries were reported.

A woman lay in bed with her young step daughter when she heard the shots. “Hurry up and get home,” she told the child’s father on the phone.

The father learned later that the man bleeding in the parking lot was his brother.

Witnesses said they only heard the shooting and saw the aftermath in the bullet holes in their units, but they didn’t see it. The police report includes no description of a suspect or reason for the shooting.

Further information wasn’t released.
