Buford officials have released Forward Buford, the city’s Livable Centers Initiative 10-year plan update. The Livable Centers Initiative is an Atlanta Regional Commission program that awards planning grants to local governments and nonprofit organizations to develop plans for their enhancement of town centers and corridors.

With city leadership and community input, Forward Buford evaluates existing conditions and makes recommendations related to infrastructure, transportation, land uses and housing options. Among the study’s goals, Forward Buford works to reinforce the role of Main Street as the city’s center, provide an interconnected street system, reduce traffic congestion, and create a cohesive, pedestrian-friendly retail environment along Main Street.
