Brookhaven has scored high marks in a water management and conservation audit. The Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources certified last week that Brookhaven complied with all provisions of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District’s Long-Term Wastewater Management Plan, Water Supply and Water Conservation Plan, and the District-Wide Watershed Management Plan.
The city credits Stormwater Utility Manager Gregory Anderson and Stormwater Engineer Shane Cape with working diligently to insure the city’s good standing with the state agency.
“A commitment to clean state waters and the environment starts at the city level,” Cape said.
According to Anderson, audit compliance involves meeting extensive requirements, such as a grease management plan, inspection and maintenance, sewer overflow reporting, capacity certification, public education, water quality monitoring and watershed improvement plans.
