A man was killed while he was trying to cross Ga. 316 near Williams Farm Drive on Wednesday afternoon, Gwinnett County police said.

The victim, identified as 37-year-old Sonfa Turay, was standing on the grass median when he darted in front of a car, according to a Gwinnett traffic report. The car swerved to avoid hitting Turay, who ran back to the median.

As a second car approached, police said Turay ran in front of that car. The driver, unable to brake or steer in time, hit and killed Turay.

No charges will be filed in the crash because “the pedestrian is at fault for (the) collision,” according to the report.

Turay’s wife said he suffered a brain injury within the past year and had an altered mental state in the past few months.
