Bond was denied Thursday for the Griffin man accused of killing a 9-year-old girl, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Shane Clifton Collett, 40, is charged with murder, kidnapping and concealing the death of another in the killing of Skylar Dials.

Skylar, who attended Orrs Elementary School, was reported missing Dec. 21. Her body was found around 2 a.m. the next day in a wooded area off of Yarbrough Mill Road.

Collett lived a short distance from where Skyler lived with an aunt, authorities have said.

Autopsy results showed the girl was choked to death, Spalding County District Attorney Scott Ballard told Channel 2.

Authorities have not determined a motive.

“We can speculate, but we just don’t know,” Ballard said. “There’s no good reason to kill a 9-year-old girl.”

No trial date has been set.
