Commissioners authorized an extension of the Western Gwinnett Bikeway Tuesday. The stretch is along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard from south of Rogers Bridge Road to McGinnis Ferry Road with an offshoot connection to Suwanee Creek Park. The Georgia DOT will fund 80 percent of the $850,294 project, with the remainder jointly funded by 2014 SPLOST funds.

In addition, Commissioners approved $355,933 for the 2-mile long Norcross to Lilburn multi-use trail along the north side of Indian Trail Road from Willow Trail Parkway to Burns Road. Bicyclists, pedestrians and those with disabilities will be able to access this trail, which will eventually extend from Beaver Ruin Road to Poplar Street in Lilburn.

Georgia DOT will fund 80 percent with the remainder coming from the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
