Alpharetta’s Avalon development will get a Chick-fil-A with a drive-through, but the OK comes with certain conditions attached aimed at making the fast-food restaurant mesh with its surroundings.

A divided Alpharetta City Council voted 4-3 Monday night to allow the 4800-square-foot restaurant, even though the city’s planning commission recommended denial in September.

Among the conditions: the design will be similar to a Chick-fil-A location in Raleigh—which looks more like a nicely-appointed office/retail building than a restaurant. In addition, the drive-through won’t be immediately adjacent to Old Milton Parkway and speaker noise and menu boards will be configured to limit the impact on adjacent residential development. The playground area will be inside the building and the outdoor seating area will be subject to Design Review Board approval.

Concerns had been raised about traffic and residential impacts.
