An annexation request by the city of Austell was granted Dec. 12 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

The 11.3 acres at 5055 Austell Road near Leila Street/Perkerson Mill Road will be used for a commercial shopping center, according to a Dec. 4 letter from Cobb’s Intergovernmental Coordinator Jay Northrup to Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins.

Northrup said the county has registered its formal notice of non-objection to the proposed annexation. The property is within an area identified as a Neighborhood Activity Center, according to the Cobb County Future Land Use Map.
