The Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta won't be bothered much by the incoming snow but is making sure its employees are aware and informed.

Forecasters issued a winter storm warning Thursday because of a system expected to bring at least 3 inches of snow to metro Atlanta between Friday and Saturday.

“It’s hitting over the weekend, so we’re not fully up and running on weekends,” said Rob Fuller, Lockheed spokesman. “There’ll be a minimal impact to our operations.”

The company sent out a memo Thursday afternoon giving managers discretion to let their employees work from home if their job doesn’t require them to be at the plant.

Fuller said about 5,000 people work at the facility during the week. Only a fraction of them work over the weekend, mostly to secure and maintain the plant.

“It’s not a full-blown operation like over the week,” he said.

Although Lockheed isn’t expecting much, they are still being careful by prepping the grounds and its staff.

Fuller said the company will assess the situation Friday to figure out if closing the plant is needed.

The storm has already cancelled one Saturday school exam in Cobb County and forced the school system to keep an eye out.
