The Atlanta Police Department has named a new LGBT Liaison, Officer Acashia Lavigeour.

A native of Fort Pierce, Fla., Lavigeour joined the department in 2012 after graduating from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla., with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She has served in Zone 5 and with the Criminal Investigations Division. Before coming to Atlanta, Lavigeour was a correctional officer in Florida.

She joins Officer Eric King as one of the department’s two liaisons to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Lavigeour replaces Officer C.J. Murphy, who has been transferred to the Gang Unit.
